Laura and I will be taking a short (six day) excursion to hike Camino de Santiago (a.k.a. "The Way of Saint James") from Porto, Portugal to Santiago de Compostela, Spain (Camino Portugues). The company we are using is Backroads. Never have used them before. Overall, it is about 35 mile hike although you have the flexibility to hike only about 1/2 of that if you prefer.

We will leave on May 4, flying from IAH to Newark, then on to Porto, arriving on May 5. We will stay the night in Porto at the Sheraton, joining the tour in the lobby of the hotel at 9:00 am the morning of May 6.

Traveling with us will be our travel agent (Maxine) and a friend.

We will finish the hike on May 11 and fly from Santiago de Compostela to Madrid where we will spend the next two nights at Hotel Orfila. On May 12, we will join Maxine on a day-long tour of Madrid (Maxine has never been to Madrid either). On May 13, Laura and I fly back to IAH while Maxine and friend head off for Barcelona.
