Day 5: May 10, 2018 Santiago de Compostella

Today was our last full day of hiking. I put in 10.01 miles with an elevation gain of about 500 feet. We walked into Santiago and visited the Cathedral. Tomorrow, we will take a tour. We attended Mass at the Cathedral before our "departure" dinner. We had been told by our guides not to expect the hoisting and swinging of the giant incense burner during Mass. They said they do not do that anymore. That was disappointing. When the Mass reached the communion phase, Maxine indicated she and Joan were ready to leave, as it was going to be a long time to finish communion. We departed. Later, at dinner, we learned that shortly after we departed the Cathedral, they indeed did swing the giant incense burner. A grand disappointment.

Lunch at a Farm House

Tomorrow we hike about three miles from the hotel to the Cathedral for a tour. Then we pack up and fly to Madrid for a couple of nights.
