Day 3: May 8, 2018 - MiƱo Estuary in Galicia

This was another long day, but not nearly as exhausting as yesterday. To summarize, I walked 7.53 miles with an elevation gain of 1,139 feet over 4 hours.

We departed Ponte de Limon, Portugal via van this morning and crossed into Spain's Galicia region. While it is due north of our starting point, when we crossed the Spanish border, we lost one hour on the clock. We then walked up Mount Santa Tecla to the remains of a Celtic settlement. It was a very steep walk covering over 2,000 feet in less than one mile. As opposed to yesterday however, the terrain was mostly well established steps as opposed to rugged terrain.

After reaching the summit, we rested briefly before heading down the other side of the mountain.

The down hill walk was also exhausting, terminating at the ocean.

The hill we came down.
We had lunch of mussels, razor claims, gooseneck barnacles, scallops, seafood and chicken paella with cheese cake and chocolate pie for desert.

After lunch, we were off again on the Camino. We walked along the coast line for another 2.5 miles. The wind was strong and in our faces.

We finished the walk and decided it was enough for the day. There was another 2 mile hike if we wanted to do it, but the guides implied they didn't think it was worthwhile (mostly along a highway) unless we just wanted to accumulate mileage.

We shuttled into the town of Baiona. Tonight, we stay at the Parador de Baiona, a historic hotel (previous castle). Tonight we fend for ourselves for dinner. We walked into town and had tapas at the La Boqueria. We shared a cheese platter, a platter of anchovy, cheese and sweet peppers and a platter of ham and chicken croquettes with ice cream for desert. It was great! Before dinner, we walked the ramparts of the castle. It was one mile in circumference.

Tomorrow, we deviate from the Camino and cruise out to the Cies Island.
